What is the German B2 exam?
B2 (Zertifikat B2) is an upper-intermediate certificate at CEFR level B2, graded per module. It uses press and academic texts, lectures and interviews, formal argumentative writing and a presentation-plus-discussion speaking part. The exam runs about 190 minutes.
Who is B2 for?
B2 is required by many German universities, for recognition of medical and nursing qualifications, and by employers hiring for German-speaking professional roles.

How difficult is B2 German?
B2 is a significant step up from B1. Learners typically need 600–800 hours in total. The difficulty comes from abstract topics, longer texts, formal register and the need to argue a position rather than describe experience.
How long is the B2 exam?
About 190 minutes across the written modules: roughly 65 minutes Lesen, 40 minutes Hören and 75 minutes Schreiben, plus a Sprechen part of around 15 minutes.
What is tested in B2?
Lesen uses press and specialist texts, Hören uses interviews and lectures, Schreiben asks for a formal argumentative text plus a formal message, and Sprechen requires a short presentation followed by a discussion.
