What is the German C2 exam?
C2 is the highest CEFR level, graded per module. It tests understanding of literary and specialist texts, radio features and lectures, essay writing and text transformation, and fully fluent, nuanced speaking. The exam runs about 205 minutes.
Who is C2 for?
C2 is used for teaching qualifications, academic posts and roles where fully native-level written and spoken German is expected.

How difficult is C2 German?
C2 is the hardest level and assumes well over 1,000 hours of exposure. It is less about learning new grammar and more about idiomatic precision, stylistic control and understanding implicit meaning in literary and specialist texts.
How long is the C2 exam?
About 205 minutes across the written modules: roughly 80 minutes Lesen, 35 minutes Hören and 80 minutes Schreiben, plus a Sprechen part of around 15 minutes.
